TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring Spanish, English, and Hispanic Linguistics. I first started tutoring high-school Spanish students during my MA in Winston-Salem, NC back in 2013. I later tutored K-12 aged children a variety of subjects at a local tutoring center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

While pursuing my PhD, I taught Spanish language courses at Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque to both children and adults. Additionally, while at the University of New Mexico, I taught undergraduate Spanish courses in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, from Spanish 1010: Introductory Spanish up to Spanish 352: Spanish Grammar in Society. Currently, I am teaching an Introduction to Linguistics course at UTEP.

I consider myself to be a passionate and empathetic teacher who enjoys sharing my knowledge and passions with students. I incorporate a variety of both group-based and individual activities to target all areas of learning while creating a dynamic and welcoming environment.

STUDENT EVALUATIONS

Teaching: Testimonials

Very approachable instructor. Great use of Spanish during class - (I loved it! even though at first I didn't understand a lot!)- just what I was hoping for. It was fun to hear someone speak Castilian Spanish! I liked the partner speaking activities, and though it was a little intimidating, I liked the read-aloud exercises. I also really appreciated the recommendation to "just try", and not to worry about making a mistake or pronouncing things wrong that you gave on the first day of class. Sharing your perspective of being shy about learning a new language was helpful and encouraging for me to hear.
